LOVE

Love is that little word we all know so well, or do we?

What does the word “LOVE” actually stand for, L.O.V.E. in a literal way as well as a figurative one?

Well here’s my take on that little four letter word that over countless millennia has impacted on so many of us.

We’ll start with the first letter in an analytical attempt to decipher the true meaning, beginning of course with the letter L.

The first word that springs to mind is LUST, is that what love really is? That when we see someone maybe for the first time, or even over a period of time and in of course a sexual manner, that red hot wanting unquenchable feel of unadulterated lust?

Longing after a person in a highly sexed state of mind could be construed as love, do the two become intertwined or is lust simply a short term sexual fix that could never really hold the mantle and the true meaning of the word love?

I have already brought up the word longing which of course also starts with the letter L, so deserves a quick mention..LONGING, that burning aching desire for someone who you love more than life itself, but no matter what, it ain’t gonna happen!!

A year passes, then two, then five, oh the hunger’s still there, (the hope) but the chasm of inevitability has widened through the course of time and though you still long/love, the damning hammer blow of reality strikes one last final time and slowly, very slowly, you let go and the raging fire of longing dies to the flickering flame of acceptance..

Though sadly for some, the eternally flickering flame never quite goes out.

Now for the letter O.

OBSESSION..

Yes we’ve all been there and those two afore mentioned words, lust and longing I suppose drop into that category.  However the word obsession/love in it’s purest form is a lethal concoction of desire, lust, want and need all thrust together and have through the course of history caused countless conflicts and wrecked lives.. And all dressed up in the sheep’s clothing of love but really under the guise of that nine letter word we call obsession.

Pressing on, we arrive at the letter V.

VENERATION, which means adoration or worship if you like, it doesn’t matter, it all means the same. I mean how many of you out there whom are head over heels haven’t totally worshipped the ground the person you love walks on?

Absolute unmitigated adoration, “YES YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE” no matter what, you would belly crawl through razor blades just to be near the one you love/worship?

Umm yes, well “that” my smitten little lovebirds is veneration!!

Now on to the final letter that comprises the word called LOVE, the letter E.

EXPECTATION..well you didn’t think I would forget that little pearl did you?

You see, love only works if it’s a two way street baby and when most of us fall off the precipice of normality and into the abyss of love, “WE EXPECT” it to be reciprocal, both ways..

Because if it ain’t and it doesn’t matter how much money you have and the Beatles were spot on, when they wrote MONEY DON’T BUY ME LOVE,” if the love vibes aren’t bouncing in both directions, then depending which sex has the bigger brain and even lesser morals, love then becomes a dangerous weapon.

Oh and what a powerful potent tool love is when used in the right manipulative way, by the someone who is receiving it, though not really, only appearing to be giving it back and how many times has that happened?

The problem is, the unfortunate sap that is pouring love out to the bastard who isn’t interested doesn’t see it until it’s too late and why?

Because they’re blind with love and EXPECTANCY that the person they love is supposed to love them back the same way “they” do..  But when they do finally wake up to the fact that it’s just been a one way thing after all, the cruel mistress of realisation unveils herself and strikes you savagely with the dagger of truth straight through the heart and sadly, some people never ever recover.

However, on a lighter note, don’t forget to buy your loved one a Valentine’s card this year. Saturday February the 14th isn’t far away now and the chocs, as well as the flowers, oh and you mustn’t forget to book that all important meal FOR TWO..

And when you’re all alone and staring romantically into each other’s eyes, holding hands as well as tenderly whispering sweet nothings to each other, just remember one thing?

Is the person you adore really and truly in love with you?

Can you really and truly tell?

WELL CAN YOU?

HAPPY ST VALENTINE’S DAY

LOL
